DIY Cinderella Sewing Book
Cinderella is one of my all time favorite Disney Princesses, so when my daughter wanted a Cinderella birthday I found myself wanting this sewing book from the movie!
If you haven’t learned this about me by now, I am all about details when it comes to…well, everything! Decorating, parties, holidays, I’m all about the details. When I started getting ideas for my daughter’s Cinderella Princess themed birthday the excitement overtook me. Cinderella, yes, one of my favorite Disney Princesses!
As usual I started doing research looking for Cinderella themed decorations and gift ideas for this perfect Princess of mine. My daughter is truly a princess and it was only right to make sure we found some cute stuff for her. Plus she has a totally awesome Princess bedroom with complete Beauty and the Beast bedroom set, Cinderella set from Pottery Barn, the works and then some!
In my research I stumbled upon a really nice collectible Walt Disney version of the Cinderella sewing book from the movie, with the book open to the sewing dress page that the mice ultimately use. The Disney version is a collectible piece and not a real book of course, and is only available on Ebay and other secondhand sites. I loved this open book look and I loved the collectible piece, it was lovely, but…it was over $400! (I have seen them less these days however) YIKES I just could not.
What do I do when I want something and I don’t want to pay a fortune for it? Drumroll…that’s right, I make it!
To Pinterest I went and began my research. Surely someone had some good ideas to make something like this, it was only a book after all. I figured the likelihood of finding something I could use to recreate the book concept must exist, or I’d have to draw it out myself in the worst case.
Luckily, I found someone who had a coloring page that was the basic sewing book page as it looks in the book, so I grabbed that and printed it out. She made the whole book cover for hers too, I just used a book I had. I used her template for the coloring page which you can see in her tutorial here.
I cropped it a bit and printed it on a piece of parchment paper (in my art supplies I’ve had for years). I also printed some on plain paper so my daughter could color too. I wanted my paper to look old though so I used the parchment paper.
To make it easier to replicate, I pulled up a screenshot I took from the movie so I could see exactly what the movie version of the sewing book looked like. You can see below how I have the photo on my Ipad as my daughter and I sit at our kitchen island bar and do our fun coloring activity. This is where we do a lot of our crafts together!
Using one of my daughter’s erasable Crayola pink coloring pencils, I started to lightly sketch the pink color into the dress, using very light strokes to keep the look faded and soft.
I used a soft brown and gold for the curtains and edging details and her hair. I outlined the hair a bit darker and lightly added some coloring inside the hair for a softer dimensional look.
After I colored the page with the coloring pencils I used a little distressing ink to age the pages for and antique look. Luckily I had a vintage old book, with a red cover coincidentally enough, so I just pasted my colored page right inside and it fit perfectly!
Another plus, the parchment paper I have, has a frayed edge, so the page on the right looks really authentic. Distressing it also helps it match the other antiqued pages in this old book. $400 saved and it only took my 10 minutes, because I took my time and had fun!

There are a lot of ways you can accomplish this little Cinderella sewing book look, this one was just super easy and fast, which are two things I love! Check out this adorable Cinderella wallet from Loungefly!
If I can make something look the same or better, for less money and little effort, I am all about that!
I hope you enjoyed seeing this cute little easy DIY Cinderella sewing book. As you can see you can use it in your decor, for a party, whatever, its super cute and it just looks awesome I think!
Save & share!
Until next time…
Keep smiling, improve every day, and build a life you love!

I love this SO much! My husband and I are adoptive parents of a little boy, and we’d like to add a little girl to our family as well. If and when God blesses us with a daughter, I’d like to decorate her room in a Cinderella theme. I absolutely must include a vignette with this sewing book. Thank you for the directions as well. I think I can actually pull it off!

I am so glad you enjoyed this cute little project! You can definitely do this and much more than I’m sure you know! Becoming a mother by God’s grace truly showed me who I was capable of becoming. The Lord works in mysterious ways. I will pray you are blessed with a daughter as well as a beautiful son. I actually made my daughter a Princess Bedroom surprise for her 5th birthday, I haven’t posted it yet, but I will soon! I shared some of the pictures on my Pinterest Board “Princess World”, so you can take a look there too if you want some more inspiration (I linked it here). I got her the Princess set from Rooms to Go (Beauty and The Beast) and I created a truly magical world with a lot of Pottery Barn Princess pieces and my illustrious imagination. I hope you’ll follow along and keep getting inspired! Thanks so much for sharing, you made my day!
P.S. When she was 4 I started making Barbie Doll style Princess Cakes for her, and I made her a Cinderella one a few years ago (post coming soon too, lol), pictures on my Pinterest. 🙂 You may love to see those! The cakes have been so fun and turned out so amazing (and I am no pro cake maker…I’m a CPA lol). Anyway, take a look at those too for inspiration, I have made these doll cakes for her themed parties so you know: Rapunzel (she was my first), Cinderella, Ariel (amazing party), Elsa, Mirabel (Encanto), Jasmine with Flying carpet Cake, Hermione Grainger (Harry Potter). I get getter and better each year! Pinterest Board Princess World
